Jay began his athletic career at the age of ten when he became a student of Shito-Ryu Karate. By his seventeenth birthday, he had secured the top spot at countless state, national and international championships. Jay moved on to Track and Field during college at the University of Arkansas and was a key member of the 1996 Division 1 National Championship Team. After an injury forced him to hang up his jersey, Jay transferred to William & Mary – one of the top ranked universities in the US – to focus on academics and coach collegiate athletics. He led the school to its first Female US National Triple Jump Championship.
Armed with a BA in English and stellar coaching accomplishments, Jay was hired directly out of college as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for the AFL’s (Arena Football League) New Jersey Red Dogs. He then worked as a Strength Coach for the NFL and Major League Baseball at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Cincinnati Reds, respectively. Now a recognized name, Jay hit the boxing arena. He was hired by former Cruiser Weight World Champion Al “Ice” Cole and then took on the role of Head Strength Coach for Heavy Weight Champion Jameel “Big Time” McCline to prepare for his World Championship Title Fight against Chris Byrd.
Motivated to bring his expertise to the masses, Jay took a position at the elite Clay Fitness in Manhattan and launched his buzzed-about NFL Training Camp which was profiled in the New York Times and on CBS. At Clay, Jay developed a cult-like following of devotees who were drawn to his warm disposition and wowed by his results. In 2006, he began working with 50 Cent and accompanied him on a tour of concerts, photo shoots, music videos and film projects for the entirety of 2008.
